#39 Learn to drive manual

My parents would say this post is premature, but I disagree. Today I drove to and from the hair dresser's and to and from work all by myself. I stalled out several times, but I made it all the way back from work without stalling once (and I did have to stop several times). Solo trips with minimal jerking and stalling to me signifies successful completion of this goal. Anyway, the goal doesn't say "Learn to drive manual like a pro." That'll take some time.

#17 Buy a Car & #18 Check my FICO Score

That's right! I have a brand spankin' new Toyota Corolla with manual transmission (Goal #39 watch out, you're next. Dad already gave me a beginner's lesson today after we bought it). I am so psyched!! It's a beautiful royal blue, it has a CD player, and it's all mine! I didn't even need a co-signer, so it's all on me. Plus, by taking out a loan, they had to check my FICO score (which was nice cuz then I got to find out what it was without having to pay for it). So I killed two birds with one stone. I have to say, this "Becoming Independent" section is going much faster than I ever imagined!!

#14 Get a teaching job

I know I just posted, but I thought this warranted it's own post because it was a very important goal for me.

Today (on a Sunday!) the principal of Kaneland High School offered me a full-time position for the 2006-2007 school year. I asked for some time to think about it. I talked it over with my parents and I am going to accept. I'm going to be a Spanish teacher at Kaneland High!!!

#91 Go to Stations of the Cross

On Friday I went to Stations of the Cross at Holy Family. The head of adult ministry had written the text for the stations and had combined it with writings of St. Patrick. It was overall a very refreshing experience.

Hi everyone!

Alas, I haven't actually completed any new goals, but I just wanted to welcome Nina and all of our new readers to WHG. I haven't been able to post anything lately because I've been in Kansas for spring break and my parents' computer hates blogspot, but now that I'm back in NC, look for more exciting goal action soon!

#77 Make 5 recipes from The Essential Vegetarian Cookbook

Almost forgot, last night Heather and Arthur came over and I made them a linguini pasta bake. It turned out pretty good. So one recipe down, four to go... If anyone's hungry for vegetarian cuisine, give me a call and I'll be happy to oblige! :)

#30 Memorize a poem

I actually memorized two poems yesterday. One of them was quite short and it was by Pablo Neruda (in Spanish!). The other was a bit longer but still not too long and it is by Tess Gallagher. I want to actually recite them for someone, but I'm not sure the opportunity will present itself. In the meantime, I'm making sure I remember them for when the occasion might arise.
